I’ll show myself out. I've worked in a plastic plant for over 40 years. If water gets into the machine where the plastic is flowing to make blown film, your going to have a bad day. I thought it was referring to the plastic wrap that supermarkets are putting on a lot of produce while banning single use plastic bags. The only plastic covering is if it’s in a sealed back that reads “Romaine Hearts” And even at that many aren’t bagged. Well at least now that we have found it, we can clean it. It definitely can and should be done. Like someone else said, this mess creates jobs for a lot of people. When you say clean it, what do you mean? Let's say we were able to extract all of the plastic from the ocean. Where would we put it that wouldn't be harmful?

You can't clean microscopic pieces of plastic broken down into the ocean. It's so tiny it's there forever. The animals of the ocean ingest it - and then humans ingest it. We can pick up the big pieces before they break down which is good. But plastic that's been sitting in the ocean for years and years is too late. And that is the major problem of plastic. You'd be surprised how much of the sand you walk on the beach is actually tiny particles of plastic. Great plan but we also need to stop throwing more plastic in there first. How about all of us start choosing products with less packaging? How about we imagine ways to reuse plastic in a consistent way? I read about a place in Japan where they built a coffee shop entirely out of used plastic. Walls, floor, tables, etc. It's as solid as regular material. And doesn't look bad! We have to pay 10 euro cents extra when we buy beverages in plastic bottles or cans. People collect the empty bottles and return them to a collection centre machine to get their money back. Im sure there are many countries that use this system as well. Caterpillar? What good is that in the ocean? And creating jobs? The mess we have made is too big a job for anyone now all we can do is try not to make it any worse. Rant over. i think you understood the tone of his comment though... i must agreed with you Dave, the planet would've been fine without the presence of human race.
