It takes all kinds. It is up to the individual what kind of life,
family, job, education. Nothing is given by a silver spoon. It takes hard work
. I am from India where constitution gives us equal right and opportunity
but we have to do much at ground level feeling that girls may be bread earner
for the family like boys exp . Late Kalpna chawala, sunita Williams in space
science tech. It is very easy to determine sex and kill girl child before birth
in India .sex determination technology plays negative role in gender balancing
before birth. Oh stop with the continual politically correct, left-wing
propaganda that you're continually pushing on us BBC, we've had enough!!
Actually this is quite important. England was built back after WWII mostly by
minorities and minorities fought for England and people don't know. People
should be aware of what others have helped them accomplish. As if fighting the
good fight for women wasn't hard enough in itself, people are making
it harder for women of colour. It's not a non-story, it's not boring,
it's not left wing propaganda, and it's not political correctness gone mad.
These comments are exactly why the movement is still a thing. Rema, I agree
with you completely. I feel we still have a long way to go, but awareness
propels us further. Remain hopeful, vocal and vigilant. I am. Show me a time
history a white cis straight man has ever had to fight for his right to vote,
his right to not be judged based on his choice of clothing, has had to fight
for his right to equal pay, his right to be accepted for his sexual orientation
and/or gender assignment.

Women and women of colour have had to fight for all of these, and some still are fighting now. Robert Davidson you edited your comment to now say in the West or UK. Are you implying that feminism and the movement is only applicable to people in these parts of the world? Feminism is not exclusive to the West. It is global for the equal rights and opportunities of ALL women amongst men. Ian Robertson I completely accept that example, however that restriction of voting wasn't based on their race and/or gender. It was based on their religious denomination - white men were still allowed to vote, but not those who were Catholics. I fully accept Catholics had to fight for their right to vote, but they weren't denied the right because of their basic human features, i.e. race, gender. Normally I would agree but they have zero evidence to support this. African Americans at that time were far more concerned with being second class citizens based on skin colour. You can't argue with facts. Lefties try but it usually ends up with them confused and their one feel gets hurt. Rema Malik, broadly agree with much of what you saying, but pre-Chartism most white men didn't have the vote either... Alex Hill, I've tried to research what the law said pre-Chartism but I'm finding it hard to understand. Could you explain further? All I have so far is that Chartism extended the right to vote to men who were aged 21 and over as well as property owners, whereas the previous Reform Act didn't extend the right beyond those who were property owners.

I would still argue that men still had voting rights as, though the right had been limited to those in parliament or were land owners pre-Chartism (I think!), there were men who *did* have the right, whereas women weren't allowed at all. Crikey, it's a very long time since I studied this!
