Sad that they use the word 'escape.

This just reinforces uninformed and inaccurate views on residentialcare. Stephen Curtis and very few NEED to be in residential homes. They're there because in most cases their family isn't interested in them except for an odd 'duty' visit and the contents of their will after they've gone. That's the truth of the matter. Lord knows why they had to be persuaded to be taken back when they wanted to stay and enjoy it. A decent child or grandchild would have gone to it with them. And they had a police escort 'home'?!! Catherine Lana Speed yes of course but unless people lose mental capacity and are a danger to themselves then aren’t forced to remain somewhere. Lorrie Holloway-White i agree many people could be supported outside of residential care. Extra Care and decent domiciliary care for example. I am not one for slamming families, most kids and grandchildren do care, they just don’t always live close by or have to work full time.  Observation or supervision is intrinsic to, and part of, any duty of care.
Just go with him and enjoy the vibe!  Supervision and duty of care is a different thing to what is being portrayed.

Review We Care We Vote Sweater

Activities Organisers should be finding out individual desires and needs ,then trying to facilitate them. Penny Motley you have some seriously unrealistic ideas of care homes. They dont have that kind of funding. Should and reality are far different. Lorrie Holloway-White - while your comment is true to a point, it is however quite narrow minded. Very many families have to place their loved ones in residential/ nursing care homes because they are simply left with no other options. It is also too simplistic to say a decent child or grandchild would have attended with them .... in my experience a great number of those in care homes have no family, not everyone gets married or indeed are blessed with children. Most people I know have placed their elderly relatives in care with very heavy hearts. Glad the men were found safe and escorted back to the care home as well, imagine the outcry had something unfortunate happened to them whilst supposedly in the care of others. Stephen Curtis having to work full time doesn't mean they can't live with them, or go and help them, or take them out for shopping etc as families always USED to do. REAL caring families still do those things.
