Wow. Coming out of that environment to become head girl, and then later start a successful career. Amazing!

Living proof that where you come from does not define you. Anyone can do great things with determination. She's very lucky, but I think it's misleading to say that "anyone can do it" under the incredible burden of drug addicted or alcoholic parents. It's great, but you might also contribute to other teens' feelings of worthlessness of they understandably can't achieve what she did. I'm wondering what sort of outside support she had that helped, like teachers, relatives etc. Not everyone has that. Yes that's very true, it might be more accurate to say "Anyone can do great things with determination and support".It helps, but other issues can complicate; such as having autism spectrum; that means you don't open up or relate easily to others, which prevents you from getting help. Or depression, or there might be physical, sexual abuse, or bullying siblings that complicate matters.  NO-one else noticing the sneering smugness of this? Happy she's done well but her parents are ill and not well, very vulnerable and she's publicly humiliating them. Funny how she wouldn't exist without them in order to mock them. As someone who came from a similar background as Chelsea, it's hard to push yourself because you have a genetic history of addiction.

I still don't have my life together, but knowing that I have a bright future of me is a strong motivator.  Charles TorresVeitch they deserve no pardon for their poor choices and should be held up only as an example of what not to be like. As their daughter, she is uniquely qualified to criticize them as she sees fit to.

Kudos to her for having ambition and desire to work for a better life and not adopting the victim mentality. Charles Torres Veitch I see what you mean, but she's 18 and trying to figure things out in our world of 'social media'....anyone can do it, if they want to at that moment. She can add to it later or not I suppose. I think it's pretty disgusting to treat your parents that way.

Her parents are ill. Also think it's pretty stupid that people are saying it shows how anyone can succeed with effort. Complete rubbish.  I think it's a shame so many people undermining want this girl has achieved despite what she has gone through. It is her life and her experiences so she is well within her rights to express her feelings/dissappoinents towards her parents in any way she sees fit. She has made a success of her life, considering her family life and has decided she does not want to end up the same way. Why is that such a bad thing and why do people feel it necessary to bring her down and say well not everyone can do it...this isn't about everyone, this is her life. Good luck to her!  Naomi Matt Hartley no what's pretty disgusting is choosing drugs over your child. Shut up you uneducated girl.  If you watch the interview with her, she's actually extremely polite about her parents and says that she forgives them.

She's definitely being the bigger person in this scenario. An outstanding example of courage, strength and understanding. She could have just as easily swung the other way if she'd been a weaker person. Good for you sweetie!
