Like if your mom talks about a time before she got pregnant with you or your grandparents talk about their memories of war and the depression, you have no actual memory of these events but you make the scene in your head, you make yourself like an omniscent narrator, your recreations of their memories in your head becomes your memories, they aren't memories that you ever actually experienced in real life which to an extent would make them false memories.

Maybe it is a memory of a nightmare I had of the incident. Well I mean if it happened you probably wouldn't even notice lol because you think it's a real memory. You created the memory which is why they shouldn't call it a memory but more a dream or day dream your brain remembers yet doesn't remember that it was a thought or a dream rather than an actual event your remembering therefore your brain recalls it as a memory. I have done this often since my dreams and day dreams are so vivid. I have to ask my husband sometimes if certain things happen or not.

Jack Popek I'm referring to false memory. It says we can remember things that didn't happen. How is that possible. I have a distinct memory of something and now I realize it wasn't possible for one vivid part of the memory to have taken place. Unfortunately, it is a memory of sexual abuse. Perhaps that explains it, because I was too young to know what was happening and I imagined things in a false manner.

I don't believe the false memory part, there is no way I can remember something that didnt happen. If i remembered it then it happend lol. But everything else wow our brain is a powerful thing. The older you get the foggier your mind gets. A child's memory can be distorted as you become an adult and more so as you become older. I cannot remember Stan Lee 1922 2018 Thank You For The Memories Shirt anymore, and I write them down then forget where I wrote them down. I am over 70 and I tell everyone my brain is so full of things it leaks some out and I forget.
