I always thought “revved up like a deuce” sounded like “wrapped up like a douche” but that doesn’t make it right so . "....at times, it can be hard to remember whether you're rooting for the tiger or the humans." I haven't read the book, but I doubt I would be rooting for the humans, like, ever. In this story, I’d probably agree lol. But the book “The Hungry Tide” by Amitav Ghosh explores this really really well. I’ve always been interested in conservation but that book made it seem kind of gray. I highly recommend it. Sergio Rivera I might be the only person here who actually read the book, but you’d be surprised how you come to root for one particular Russian forest ranger: diligent, competent, sympathetic to the tiger but determined to protect human beings also. I rooted for the tiger, mostly, but you also feel for the people just trying to feed and protect their families in remote regions of Siberia. You don’t root for the poachers, obviously. CJ Jackson It's about life in the taiga, which is the northern forest part of Siberia. When the Soviet Union fell apart, so did what passed for the rule of law -- it's a marginal place in many ways. The lumber is valuable, and often logged illegally then shipped to China.

So there's basically three main characters -- well, four: the tiger; Markov, who is killed and eaten by the tiger; Trush, the game warden -- and the taiga itself. It’s perfectly natural and primal to be excited by this kind of story. I don’t hunt for fun, but will shoot animals that endanger livestock or nuisance species. In fact, just this morning, my partner stopped him from killing a sparrow he had pounced on and was torturing. I think maybe we’ll sleep with the bedroom door closed tonight... Edit to add: I’m guessing you don’t recognize the quote. Remember Tatiana the tiger at the San Francisco zoo about 9 years ago? She jumped the walls of her confinement and tracked down the three young men who supposedly had been taunting her. She killed one of them. So this is a cat thing. They were throwing things at her and her babies. The truly tragic part of the story is they put her down after that. Reminds me of the story at the SF zoo a while back with men harassing a Siberian tiger in its enclosure and then the tiger got out and hunted those particular people and killed one of them.
