We have the records of Kennicott's last expedition at the Smithsonian Institution Archives-- a great read. There was a lot of personality conflict among the crew. "They found that there wasn't enough strychnine in his bones to justify the suicide hypothesis, and accounts of Kennicott's childhood fainting spells and other evidence led them to conclude that he actually suffered from heart disease." Paraphrasing, "It probably wasn't suicide by strychnine and it could possibly have been heart disease" isn't exactly "solving the mystery." (I'm assuming that "people said he had fainting spells in childhood" is the _strong_ evidence. What _was_ the unspecified "other evidence?") Look, it sounds like a cool thing for the Smithsonian to do but billing it as "Solves 150-Year-Old Mystery?" Come on. This has a lot of interesting parts, but what stood out to me was the never sitting down part and the collecting from a young age. I don't know that he would fit into modern American culture, but look how he thrived in his thirty years then. Way to make a potentially interesting story boring. And why didn't you explain the mouth foaming? Damn. Don't publish any more badly written stories. I am horrified that this mans body is on public display. That's really sick. So they dug up this scientist to prove that he didn't kill himself, and instead of putting him back in his grave to RIP, these morons put him in an exhibit?????? I am speechless. The hubris displayed here is staggering. This is shameful. Those of you in Chicago, There is a plaque about him at the Peggy Notebaert Museum. He collected hundred of specimens for the Chicago Academy of Sciences.

These are now at the Peggy Notebaert. Cool story, and he would probably be happy to rest at the Smithsonian but, as a display, it doesn't make much sense. Just another human skeleton. "...back to the Smithsonian, which was so dear to his heart." The heart that may or may not have betrayed him; actual irony here. What is the purpose of keeping his bones? Put them back where they belong. The mystery has ended. Let him rest in peace. I'm really offended by the display of human bones on anyone. This man should be buried or cremated by his descendants! Why would he have any strychnine in his body at all? Maybe it was suicide? It sounds as ough he might have been bi polar. I don't think his bones should be displayed. Or anyone's, for that matter. He was a Lebron James Ultimate Warrior T Shirt, not a specimen, jeeze! i would just to do it just and try it something different i dont have any just one would do a bit expensive but if i got a chance i would JUSTLIVE. I am not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but I do have that gut feeling for some time now ... a feeling that since our history gave us enough time to get to know our planet, almost every major mystery here on Earth (except Oceanic depths and the Space ofc) ONLY exist as 'mystery' because there is always SOMEONE in my opinion who tries to keep the truth under some wraps. For some reason or another. So, we need someone brave to actually break the knowledge free, and to go there for like a No One Is Illegal On Stolen Land Shirt, with an independent crew, to test existing theories and draw conclusions based on observation of the real thing (not that I believe there weren't some government crews there already... safety of the oceanic routes is INDEED a state matter, they would have done it already!), and then PUBLISH everything so that we finally know our shoes. We deserve the truth. And that person OUGHT to be brave because if I am right and there is indeed something for someone influential to 'protect', that ppl will do everything to suppress the crew and made them either lie or not publish crucial evidence. No,it's just been a few decades since our technology boomed to what it is today. Science is progressive, changes and upgrades. We just have limited technology which then limits our knowledge and understanding to some things.
