It’s not rocket science! They start school the eldest in the class. My daughter was just four years and three weeks old when she started school with children who were nearly a year older than her in her class!! We are both September in our house. We must be steaming with intelligence! (Yeah, right!). Mikko-Petteri Laiho Well you wouldn’t compare three week old baby ‘s abilities to a one year old baby would you. What I’m saying is when my daughter started school she was in a class with children who were at least a year older than her ,surely even you can work that out! This is proven to be correct, children held back a year so they go to a school a year older consistently do better academically. Children starting school in the U.K. with September birthdays already they have 25% more emotional and academic development behind them than the youngest that were born in August. The majority of teachers know to expect the youngest in the class will benefit from extra support and attention. I am born in September, and started school (not kindy, FS, EY or whatever else, actual Grade ONE) before I was 5... I was ALWAYS the youngest... Only in England Terry. In Scotland school year starts in Jan (so youngest kids born in December), in Northern Ireland it’s July (youngest kids born in June). Michał Włodarczyk you do not seem to understand what this article and the responses are about. Perhaps you are not familiar with the schooling pattern . Terry Scofield Are you trying to convince me that performance in school is same thing than being smart!?! I'll bet my bottom dollar you weren't born in September! Bryony May The majority of teachers don't expect them to need extra support at all. A lot of expect children from disadvantaged backgrounds to need it due to evidence from research like Gillian Considine's. Some of the smartest individuals were born later on in the school year. Garry Kasparov was born in April, Stephen Hawking and Paul Langan were both born in late January. I could go on with that list. I'm 99.9% sure that when my mum qualified as a teacher this was not one of the things she was told to expect. I was one of the youngest in my class, actually. I was just able to keep up, except for maturity. That was problem clear through high school. Dont blame our intelligence on you not sending your daughter to school later. So many want their kids to be genius so off to school they go. September. That is the key. To everythjng. The only reason this statistic is true is that there are more people born in September than any other month!! Something to do with being drunk and Christmas.

There are more fat people born in September, there are more tall people born in September etc etc etc. This statistic would change if they moved the school intake month 😂 or assessments were carried out when a child turned 5. Instead, some children are assessed against criteria when they are still 4 years old. It's like assessing a one month old baby against the same criteria as a 10 month old! The reason is because they're a few months more mature than other kids when they first go to school in April. Not smarter. Just older in the school yeAr which at primary level makes a huge difference. This gives them confidence and hey presto...sept borns get higher results in tests (which does not mean they are smarter!!). Another pointless, dubious study which serves no purpose and proves nothing except that these "Experts" have nothing better to do with Fight For Old Dc Caps Shirt. What a ridiculous headline. The study shows children born at the start of the school year do better at school. It has nothing to do with September or intelligence! In another context, if school starting month was January or August then those children born then would not be more “intelligent” but rather have the advantage of being fully developmentally prepared for school. My eldest daughter was born in Septembershe walked at nine months, we could have a conversation with her at one year old, she flew through school and university and is now a medical doctor, still exploring the world. This obsession with using the word smarter to mean more intelligent is incredibly frustrating! Smart has one meaning and that is to be well dressed. Therefore the headline should read: 'Babies born in September may be (are is an absolute and is therefore impossible), more intelligent according to a Incredibles 2 Edna Mode Shirt.'
What an inaccurate headline! This article is saying thatSeptember babies have the advantage of being older, it has nothing to do with being smarter. Completely wrong especially as I am September child I most definitely wasn’t the smartest in my year group! That's obviously true. They start school at an older age so have had more time to develop. Whereas those born at the end of the academic year (eg me) are less developed when they start school. I wouldn't say it's objectively true in all cases but there is correlation. I'm a May baby, my sister's a September baby. I did less revision than her at school and did better. Does this mean I'm some kind of genius, or that this research is rubbish? Not smarter but just fortunate to be the oldest in their year group.

This is old old news: so old it’s not news at allLet's test this absolutly dumb theory, Stephen Hawking borned in January, Isaac Newton in December, Albert Einstein in March, Galileo Galilei in January, Nietzsche in October. Yeah right this theory is supersolid. Although I have a massive family, five children, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, only one of them was born in September. Does this make us thick? No, siree. Most have degrees, excellent careers and are forces to be reckoned with. Just proves that statistics can say anything you want them to say. Albert Einstein was born in March, Stephen Hawking was born in January and Leonardo Da Vinci was born in April. I'll just leave this big assawoman bay t shirt here. Haha!!! I got "sent up" a year, so actually was the youngest in the class I ended up in. That was back in 1964 ..
