asexually done, so baby groot is genetically identical as his
"father" and therefore is more like a clone of groot than an

True, but no matter how you look at it, it’s still an offspring. Without the
“parent” itself, no clone will be produced. I also agree with Mateo Sdl Ossio,
it is not an earth plant to casually say it asexually produced a clone. It’s an
alien plant. Plants reproduce in a number of different ways! If we are just
talking about trees (so only seed, vascular plants), then in a basic sense, a
single plant will usually have both male and female sex organs. The male organs
produce pollen, which is basically a vessel that produces sperm and is carried (via
wind, animals, etc.) to the egg in the female organs (carpel), then you get
pollination, fertilization, and embryo development (i.e. baby plant). The
pollen can therefore be carried to the female organs on the same plant
(self-fertilization) or a different plant. But either way it is sexual
reproduction. Now, there are certain types of plants (e.g. banana trees), where
you can literally just chop off a branch, go plant it, and it will just grow
into a new plant that is identical to the original (it will be a clone; this is
asexual; and I think it's called "propagation," but I'm not positive)
-- I cant recall what the reason behind this is off the top of my head, but it
is much rarer (as it doesnt allow for genetic variation in the population, so
such a species would have to arise in a very consistent environment, and would
likely have low overall fitness)... but yeah, baby groot would probably be the
result of the latter option, so he would be a clone.

Im just going to leave this here... i dont care what the director says. Im going with the people who actually created him and how it actually works in the comics. http://marvel.com/characters/866/groot ... "Groot was extremely powerful and resilient, he has the power or regeneration allowing him to re-grow limbs and even his entire form." Yeah he regenerates when he is injured broken cut can regrow himself. He uses his energy to grow things back grow himself back to size from a bit of himself. But in the movie he doesn't get cut or chopped he uses his energy to grow to his most mature state he ages himself to death in order to save his friends, he overgrew. I figured that's why little groot stars off like a brand new seedling or sprout because a lot of trees reseed when they are burnt or die. It's just my interpretation, a comics story ie life story, powers origin can change a lot between Lebron James Ultimate Warrior T Shirt . This is the MCU, not the comics. Comic rules don’t apply to the movies. Otherwise Superman could spawn little supermen from his finger and Hawkeye would be wearing bright purple. Actually if your a comic fan you know that different versions of characters can be extremely different from comic to movie and also between comic series's and you learn all origins and basically pick your favourite eg,, in batman comic series Origin it's a man called joe chill that killed Batmans parents he was just a robber but later on in the movie batman and a few other adaptations it is the joker who killed batmans parents before becoming joker. Comics are kinda like fairy tales, the same characters the same basic plot but hundreds of different adaptations to the tales. Zon Olivera Exactly needs to plant apart of himself to regrow himself, in the movie nobody plants a chunk of groot for him to form roots and regrow himself (in which he retains his past experiences and memories) instead he grows to his full state killing himself and leaving a sprout as he reproduce his son ( like I said that's my interpretation. You know when they say based on "charicters" dosent mean completly translated on to Starbucks Pride Shirt 2018 .

It's clearly a diffrent groot. As much as I want to defend you, this is MCU, not Earth-616. MCU has alot of alterations done probably for plot convenience and/or to give other characters a chance to shine. MCU= Marvel Cinematic Universe!!! not Marvel Comic Universe Conpletley different
