Yes, we can, but only if Democrats start taking midterm elections seriously. And the low turnout in many of the primary elections isn't a great sign that they are. Democrats have to retake enough state governments THIS YEAR if they want to have a Rick And Morty Run The Jewels Shirt of undoing the gerrymandering of congressional districts after the 2020 Census, and if they want to sidestep the electoral college in 2020.
We only need a few more states to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which is a pledge by states to give all their electoral votes (no matter how their citizens vote) to whomever wins the nationwide popular vote. If Democrats don't turn out in force to turn a few more red state legislatures and governor's offices blue, it's not going to happen in time to prevent disaster in 2020. Congressional Democrats need to grow a spine and fight this. We sat there and watched the the GOP block Garland with nearly a year til the 2016 election. It is time for the congressional dems to block Trump’s appointment.
